About This Avocado Toast
Avocados are a must-have food in my house. I actually buy one or two every week to utilize in all types of recipes. Avocados, often called butter fruit, are a delicious and fatty food that works well in both sweet and savory meals.
Raw, with a little lemon juice, black salt and extra virgin olive oil, it’s my favorite. And I definitely make a new, satisfying guacamole sandwich at least once every two weeks.
But my favorite way to eat avocados is on toast. It’s a quick and tasty snack or breakfast. This recipe is really simple to make and doesn’t need much cooking time—only 15 minutes!
When you crush wonderfully ripe avocados onto thick slices of toasted garlic bread, classic avocado toast becomes even more scrumptious. You can also add almost any other toppings you want to get the flavors you enjoy most.

How to make Avocado Toast
Prep Bread & Avocado
- First, cut a loaf of French bread, garlic bread,

or baguette into pieces that are 1 inch thick.

I used whole wheat garlic bread here.

- Put a griddle, tawa, or big skillet on medium heat. Put the slices of bread in. You could also toast bread in the microwave or a toaster instead of using a skillet.
If you’re toasting in the oven, warm it to 180 degrees Celsius (356 degrees Fahrenheit) and toast for 5 to 7 minutes, or until the bread is crispy and golden. If necessary, turn the slices over halfway through the baking.
- At the same time, get the avocado filling ready. Wash the avocado in cold water and then dry it off. Then, use a sharp knife to cut the avocado in half across the pit.

Gently pull the two halves apart.

Tip: Always use avocados that are ripe. If the skin feels firm when you push it, the avocado is not yet ripe.
When you lightly press on the skin of a ripe avocado, it should feel a little squishy. I normally buy unripe ones and wrap them in a loosely woven cotton napkin. I then let them ripen on the counter for a day or as long as I need to.
Remove the seed
- With a spoon, take out the avocado flesh that looks like butter. Make sure to scrape off the peel to get all of the avocado.

- Throw away the skins and put the avocado meat on a cutting board.
- Cut the avocado into small pieces. You could also put the scooped avocado pulp in a bowl and mash it up well.

Make Avocado Topping
- Put the chopped avocado and one finely minced garlic clove in a mixing dish.

- Add ½ teaspoon of dried oregano, ¼ teaspoon of crushed black pepper, salt to taste, and ¼ teaspoon of lemon juice to taste. Lemon juice helps keep the color from fading, but you can skip it if you don’t have any.

- You can add any herbs you want, such as cilantro, mint leaves, parsley, basil, or thyme. The recipe works well with both fresh and dried herbs.
- Mix Well.

Toast Bread
- Don’t forget to turn your bread while the Avocado mash is cooking.
You can also toast the bread in the oven or with a Electric toaster. - Keep toasting the bread until it is a light golden color.

- When the garlic bread is done toasting, lightly spray it with olive oil.
- To make the Garlic flavor an even stronger, Rub half of a cut piece of garlic on the Bread.

Make Avocado Toast
- Use a fork or spoon to spread the avocado mixture on each piece of toast.

- Serve Avocado Toast right away as a snack or breakfast.
